How to read your birth chart with tarot cards - Ohm Terra (2023)

Previously we talked about how you can use your zodiac sign and parts of your natal astrological chart to learn more about yourself by connecting them to tarot cards. If you missed these posts, check them out at these links:

Part 1 - Tarot birth cards in detail

Part 2 - Annual Tarot Cards

Part 3 - Tarot and the Zodiac

Linking tarot and astrology, you must have found your natal chart online with all its planetary placements. If not, go tocoffee astrologyor google free birth charts to get a copy. For accuracy, you need your birth time and place.

Once you have your birth chart, get your tarot deck. This is a detailed presentation on viewing your natal chart using tarot cards.

This works great for people who are not very familiar with astrology but know the tarot better.

preliminary work

To make this propagation easier for you, you need to get the worksheets below and 6 sticks or dividers. They should be about 3 feet long, so twine or twine is your best bet. You can even use a Christmas ribbon if you can lay it flat. If you find you only have access to shorter dividers, you can use 12 of them. These dividers are the design of the tarot layout where you place your cards. The layout is shown below.

Step 1:Fill out the worksheets. This makes it easier for you to lay out the cards in the correct pattern without having to go back and forth between each card.

Step 2:Make the horoscope wheel like the one below and arrange the tarot cards according to your worksheets. When you put cards into their houses, the 1st house is always your ascending sign (ASC or Ascendant). From there, number the squares in numerical order clockwise around the wheel.

TOP:In the photo above I used red Christmas ribbon that I straightened as best I could with my fingernail. I used the same technique my mother taught me, running my fingernail across the ribbon to make it curl, but I straightened it out. When it wasn't quite straight I used rocks and crystals I had on the ends to hold it. The amethyst in the center is meant to hold everything in place.

go deep

If you look at the wheel you've created in front of you, there are a few different types of maps:

  • Planetary charts tell you how energy manifests

  • Zodiac signs tell how these energies appear and behave

  • Homes that indicate where these energies appear in your life.

When making this spread I like to take each chart individually and then as a whole. It seems to make it a little less confusing. The cards you place are taken from Table 1: The Zodiac Cards.

The Zodiac Cards

The cards represented by the zodiac signs inform how the energies of the planetary cards are manifested. At the same time, in combination with the house, they can tell you how the archetype of the associated tarot card expresses itself in your life.

These cards tell you that the energy of the tarot card represented by the sign (eg The Emperor is represented by Aries) appears in the house part of your life. For example, my Emperor (Aries) is in the 7th house which is represented by Justice and corresponds to partnerships, legal affairs and cooperation. This can be read in different ways:

  • My Emperor energy appears in the justice aspects of my life

  • I like to be in control of areas of my life related to partnerships and collaboration

  • I call for stability in legal issues and partnerships.

After you've gone through the zodiac signs in the houses, it's time to add your planets.

The Planet Maps

Planetary charts tell you how the energy of the zodiac sign is manifesting in your life. In the example below, my sun is in Leo, which corresponds to the sun chart. The Sun is about luck, originality and success. It's about being in the spotlight and being noticed. These are things that people also associate with the sun sign Leo.

Combine the following cards for your interpretation:

  1. The planets tarot card in Table 2

  2. The tarot card representing the zodiac sign of the planet (table 2 for the zodiac sign of the planet and table 1 for the tarot card representing the zodiac sign)

  3. The tarot card representing the house the planet is in, from Table 3 (below)

An example:My moon is in Taurus in the 8th house. My High Priestess (Moon) is in the Hierophant (Taurus) in the 8th house (Death). This can be read in different ways:

  • My HP acts as a teacher (hierophant) in transformational (death) areas of my life

  • I follow my intuition (HP) when things change (Death) because it allows me to learn the lesson I need to learn (Hierophant)

The houses

The houses tell you which parts of your life energies emerge from the zodiac and planetary charts. Each house is represented by a separate tarot card. The following house meanings are the astrological assignments of the houses. If you wish, you can use keywords and mappings that you have created for the Major Arcana map associated with the house number. Therefore, instead of using the 1st house meaning given below, you would use the association you created through personal experience with the Emperor.

Additional depth - aspects

To add even more depth to this spread, you can add aspects. Aspects are mathematical relationships between the planets. The horoscope wheel is 360° and each of the 12 signs of the zodiac occupies 30° of this circle. In your natal chart, the positions of your planets are given in degrees, minutes, seconds. In my horoscope I have my Sun in Leo at 2°38' (2 degrees, 38 minutes, no seconds). One aspect is how many degrees separate 2, 2, 3, or 4 planets.

The aspects that matter most to us areConnection,Opposition, square, zTrine. While there are 9 aspects in total, these 4 are the most influential in our lives. Don't worry if your eyes glaze over on the math parts, I don't blame you. But I wanted to include it as a reference for anyone interested.

Connection

Connectionis when two planets in the same sign are on the same degree (or within 10°) of each other. This is the most powerful aspect of astrology. The two planets that are in conjunction will mix their meanings. They will work together and reinforce each other. Kind of a super boost.

Opposition

If you have two planets that are on opposite sides of the chart, you have oneOpposition. Oppositions can occur when the planets are within 9° of 180° of each other. That sounds confusing, I know. But listen to me... my moon is opposite Pluto. My moon is in Taurus (3°27') and Pluto in Scorpio (12°23'). If you look at my birth chart you will see that they are on opposite sides of the circle. That alone doesn't make it an opposite, you have to add the 9 degrees from each other. 12°Scorpio -3°Taurus =9°, which creates opposition. If you have 2 planets that are on opposite sides of your chart or within 171° to 189° of each other on the circle, they are in opposition.

I find it easier to look at your natal chart picture and see if you have any planetary charts that can form a straight line between each other.

Planets in opposition are exactly what they appear to be, they don't get along. They argue, separate and fight. They can represent places where you can experience growth and fulfillment.

square

Asquarecontains only 2 planets. When two planets are 90° apart, they form a square (or visually a right triangle). Again, there is some wiggle room at 90° apart, you can have 9° on either side of 90°, so two planets somewhere between 81° and 99° apart.

Squares represent challenges and stress. But at the same time, the obstacles that this can create are lessons for you. It can show you where you will overcome difficult things that will develop your character.

Trine

Finally, we have themTrine. When two planets are in trine, they are 120° apart. (With the 9° maneuvering space). When looking at your spread, imagine an equal sided triangle. Does one of your maps match the points of your imaginary triangle? These cards would be trine to each other.

A trine represents the most harmonious of all times. It means things are easy for you. But beware, if you find that you have too many trines, you may become lazy and feel like you don't need to work on things.

Diploma

I hope you have enjoyed this series and that it has helped you to learn a little more about yourself and your place in this world. If you found this helpful, please share it with others so they can learn a little more about themselves and their place in this world. In writing this series I have found that astrology and tarot together have a lot of information to offer if you are willing to sit back and listen. If you let your intuition guide you through these exercises, you can receive more guidance than books can offer. Nobody knows who you are better than your higher self.
